Which is bestest?

March 30th, 2008

Beach House - Heart of Chambers

The Carpenters - We’ve Only Just Begun

Play them both at the same time, oh yes, the musical genius of a constipated circus bear given a harp and a candle-lit jacuzzi room.

sitting in a car at the curb.

The Church - It’s No Reason. I really can’t say what the hell it is about this song, but I listen to it quite a bit. 1983 wasn’t just about MS Word and Nintendo getting released… omg. Can you imagine if I really cared about what else was going on in ‘83?

The Chills - Pink Frost. No idea why I haven’t placed this before, but the damn song is so so so great.

The Ch… (j/k)|
kitCHens of Distinction - The Third Time We Opened The Capsule.  I had a friend put this on a video compilation (now lost) back in the early 90’s. My initial reaction was.. blegh. Then one day it just kicked me in the chin and I really liked it, but had no idea who it was as there were no titles. Some friend-slueth discovered it was KoD. I miss that tape. Maybe I should compile a list of what was on it… one day.

Moose - This River Will Never Run Dry. This is it. I can’t make this any better tonight. I’ll be in my sock drawer now.

Here comes the SICK.

March 25th, 2008

Almost 3 months of no updates is ridiculous balls. So watch me slam ya like a yo yo in heat.

The National - Apartment Story.  I’ve been in an old wardrobe at the bottom of the sea, or at least that is my excuse for not knowing more about these guys a long while ago.  They feel like the band that was afraid to be awesome until a few other bands tried to do this and just blew on dicks instead.

Holy Fuck - No really, that’s their name. and really. Holy Fuck. I can’t stand the bearded hunched over in tea-shirts (clever eh?) manic musicians, but holy fuck, these guys kinda nail it in a good way. Amazing? pretty damn close I will say. Mogwai, nah…

The Teenages - In a pretty rad, ‘Material Issue’ kinda way, these guys pop this fucking song into my brain a few times a week. I really like this horrible video too. Fuck it… I dig these guys a lot.

( C#nt)

The Rakes w/ Lily Allen - Let’s Dance.  I’m not a huge Lily Allen fan, I like her fine but this cover reminded me of a abit of Altered Images, and it made me smile. The Rakes, are great, with snakes at a bake sale. .. . shit. Look them up, they are fun.

Unrest - Isabel

December 27th, 2007

Finally someone has answered the small notes i put into scotch bottles and sail down rainy gutters on dead peoples estates, and they did so by adding some Unrest to the superwires of joy we call the internet.

i’m not even gonna delete that. fucking ridiculous as it is….

So yea, if you don’t know Unrest, you should. Here is what to look for, at least cause they are my faves so i can say they are good… (to me!)

Cherry Cream On
I Do Believe You Are Blushing
June ) as you lay dying, morphine and ice cream( and the part where she sings, “they took the heart right out of you…” omfffffg.

*LISTEN* i found it just for u. JUNE

Midnight Oil - The Power & The Passion

December 13th, 2007

i loved this song back when i wore a purple and black checkerboard bandana around my neck, with a painters hat and purple converse. yes i liked girls then too, but this could be why i didn’t have a girlfriend in those moments. In any case, i loved the drum solo and would beat this shit out of my pillows, i mean my drum set… ok pillows.

i guess it coulda been worse, i could have danced like him…

Split Enz - One Step Ahead

December 13th, 2007

this is one of those songs that i heard a few times on the radio and probably recorded it onto some cassette tape I labeled as ‘dead romance motivation’, or ‘ a star fell out of the sky and is lodged in my skull’.

the whole -
Stop, I confess sometimes
I don’t know where I’m going
Part of me stays with you…

so fucking good, like how does he know ;)

The Chameleons - Monkeyland

December 13th, 2007

empty parking lots, cloves and clouds… thats the chameleons to me.

*this was a demo video produced back in 1983.

siouxsie & the banshees - the last beat of my heart

November 5th, 2007

tons and tons of great Siouxie out there, but this is one of my quiet favorites.

Interpol - Pioneer to the falls

October 30th, 2007

Being their first west coast fan ever, don’t get me the fuck started on that… I have been a bit bummed by the stuff coming out of them, but I finally started giving the new album a chance, and i damn near felt like i got slapped in the back of the neck with a baseball bar this song is so damn good. I know, this isn’t a video but I had to share the song cause fuck fuck fuck its really really good.

and now i have to go listen to the rest…. viva la post-punk-revival-blah blah blah….

Ministry - Revenge

October 27th, 2007

I expect to get beat up if my Ministry loving friends find out that I put this up, but I dig the whole New Wave-ness of it…
